„TERRITORIES. Rural-urban Strategies“
Since the imbalance between rural and urban spaces in Germany and in Italy is currently addressed as major challenge, the Chair for Regional Building and Urban Planning of Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) and the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo (UniPa) are organizing the international conference „TERRITORIES. Rural-urban Strategies“ in Hannover on 15.-16.04.2016. TERRITORIES specifically faces the role of urban and rural development, of urban and landscape design and planning, and the role of architecture, which all have the double task to explain and enfold an actualized view of the territory, and of its future perspectives.
Connected to the conference the international „Workshop Territories“ for Masterstudents from Germany and Italy has the aim to directly involve graduate students in innovative research. The conference and the workshop are supported by DAAD in the programme „Hochschuldialoge mit Südeuropa“.
The selected case study for the international workshop are strategic scenarios of spatial futures for the area of Griese Gegend / Elbe Valley in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Niedersachsen. This peripheral rural area with high cultural and natural qualities offers an excellent start for the workshop‘s strategic and design discussions:
1. how can qualitites of space foster sustainable futures of rural areas,
2. how can they be re-connected with rural-urban flows,
3. how different socio-economic trends can become incentive for strategically offer spatial scenarios of rural futures?
4. and how can they contribute to strategy and development processes in the region?
