DFG PhD Grant for Claudia Massioni at HCU

Claudia Massioni (Italy) has been awarded with a DFG Doctoral Grant in the new Research Training Group “Urban Future Making: Professional Agency across Time and Scale” at HCU Hafencity University Hamburg. Funded from Marche Polytechnic University for a six-month scholarship at Leibniz University Hannover in 2020/21, she has developed the outline of her thesis project at LUH, supervised by Prof. Jörg Schröder. Her research focuses on “Circular strategies for the activation of 1950-1976 housing projects of inland Marche region”. The Italian building wave of reconstruction and economic boom (1950- 1976) generated an impressive amount of housing projects. These buildings experience social and ecological issues: they are ending their design service life and lacking sustainability in technology, yet they represent our past, define cities and still provide dwellings. A closer look at them is taken in Marche region in central Italy, focusing on the inner area, characterised by fragile and marginal municipalities, yet still resilient places with present potential towards which the new recovery fundings are directed. The research addresses the commitment of professionals to this ordinary residential built environment and aims to build shared knowledge and interdisciplinary dialogue between communities of professionals and society.
