STADT- UND RAUMENTWICKLUNG

About us

Cities are where the greatest social challenges of our time are concentrated, but they also offer the greatest potential for solving them. This conviction is the driving force behind our work.

Our scientific interest focuses on the interrelationships between urban space and social transformation processes: How, for example, do migration, ageing or social diversification affect urban space? And conversely, how can we respond to the consequences of these developments through urban design and urban development?

We address these questions in various teaching and research projects in the fields of architecture, urban design and urban development, seeking interdisciplinary exchange with other disciplines such as sociology, behavioural psychology, planning theory and complexity research. A particular focus of our work is on the transformation of built structures, concerning aspects of ecological, social and cultural sustainability goals (Umbaukultur). In addition, we actively participate in professional discourse in the form of publications, exhibitions, lectures and media contributions.
