UUURBLE
Uuurble is an internet-based platform dedicated to researching and describing cities and neighbourhoods around the world. The focus is on urban and historical features of these places, but also on cultural, social, political and ecological aspects. Uuurble is based on images from the online map service Google Maps and links this material with explanatory texts, graphics, photos and videos. In this way, urban spaces can be explored and explained in multiple ways.
The contributions on Uuurble are created by students from Leibniz University Hannover and other universities in Germany and abroad. Uuurble was developed by the Department of City and Transformation in cooperation with the Department of History and Theory of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Technical University of Braunschweig.
Atlas of Demolition
In recent years and decades, much research has been conducted into the ecological impact of construction and housing. However, the consequences of building demolition have not yet been investigated. The Atlas of Demolition (Abriss-Atlas), a crowd-knowledge-based platform, makes demolition activity in Germany visible for the first time. Citizens can enter buildings threatened with demolition or already demolished on a map and add photos and information about the architect, the years of construction and demolition as well es the reason for demolition.
The reference for the Atlas of Demolition comes from Countdown 2030 in Basel. The German version was initiated by Architects for Future (A4F), Bund Deutscher Architektinnen und Architekten (BDA), Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) and other stakeholders from the fields of architecture and environmental protection. The Department of City and Transformation and students from the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape played a key role in the creation of the Atlas.
