As part of the ‘Little Freedom No.5’ project, students have the opportunity to pursue their interests analytically, creatively and/or theoretically, to enrich their thoughts with new knowledge, to critically examine, clarify and further develop them. The aim is to express what has been learned in a comprehensible and understandable form and/or to communicate it graphically in a concise manner. The format of the final project is to be chosen by the students in consultation with the lecturers. In addition to written work in the form of term papers, brochures or books, formats such as videos or websites are also possible. ‘Little Freedom No.5’ can be used as preparation for a master's or bachelor's thesis, to formulate one's own research question and to discuss the spatial and discursive context.

The topic of ‘Little Freedom No.5’ must be submitted before the start of lectures. It should be accompanied by a short exposé. This should be about ten lines long and define the focus of the paper in terms of the problem and hypothesis, state the relevance of the topic (i.e. urgency, generalisability and, if applicable, applicability) and indicate what the author expects to gain from working on the topic. For contextualisation in the discourse, the main sources (at least three books, texts and/or reference projects) on which the author intends to base their work should also be named. Information on the methodology would also be useful. Overall, the brief exposé should not exceed one A4 page. Before formulating the topic, it is advisable to consult with a research assistant in the department.
